Access Gorges on Chips

Access picked up a Vinegar award last night at the prestigious Chip Shop Awards 2008, the industry-wide celebration of all that is innovative, ironic and outlandish in the world of design, advertising and branding.

Access was awarded the Vinegar runners up prize for its ambient campaign created as part of the original pitch work for the BODY WORLDS 4 exhibition, which was held at Access' client the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester.

This award was won in the aptly named ‘Best Work for a Client You Have but Haven't a Hope of Running' category.

Access, the incumbent creative agency for the museum, designed and produced all the promotional material for the exhibition. The agency won the project following a speculative pitch for the creative campaign. BODY WORLDS 4 and MOSI subsequently made a decision to go with their existing BODY WORLDS branding elements, but both parties were that impressed with the creative solutions that Access presented, they awarded them the business.

Access produced a vast range of media for the campaign including press advertising, radio, outdoor, online banner ads and literature. But ironically it was this ambient work which the client opted to omit from the campaign that won the award.

Access were also proud to be twice nominated for ‘Best Charity Advertisement' category for its organ donation campaign, and its organ donation ambient media campaign for the NHS. These nominations were particularly satisfying as this campaign grew out of the backlash Access received from The Church of England, following its announcement that the agency had won this pitch.

The speculative campaign was developed following the Bishop of Manchester's call for an advertising campaign aimed at restoring confidence in organ and body donors.

Creative Director Sarah Parker comments: "This was the first year we have entered the awards, so I was incredibly happy to have received two nominations, let alone a Vinegar award - it‘ll take pride of place in our boardroom. I think it's so important for the creative industries that good work is recognised; its helps us all to aspire. We hold the Chip Shop awards in high regard, and we'll definitely be entering work in the future."
