Lacing Up - Access Team to take on Manchester 10k

The Access 10K team

Running, essentially a skill learned by the need to be somewhere quicker. Not necessarily something which you'll ever have to do, because you want to. Instead, it's something which we do during times of urgency, fear of missing the bus or train for example. When we choose to go Running it can a therapeutic experience, man against the road, the releasing of all the days stress and the need to tire yourself out. But, well, who chooses to go running?

This year, in June, Access will be remembering our former colleague Ian Wilkinson. We lost Ian almost 2 years ago tragically, when, suffering from depression, he took his own life. A truly saddening time for myself and the rest of the team. The only positive outcome from that time, was the beginning of our relationship with Manchester based charity, 42nd Street.

42nd Street, based in Ancoats, is responsible for the welfare and care of many young people aged between 13 and 25 suffering from the effects of stress, be it in school, with friends or at home. Their service stretches across the City of Manchester, Trafford and Salford. Our support for them has involved lending our expertise to their digital output, assisting with their events and more importantly helping to raise funds for them. You may remember our 36 hour cycle ride and when we scaled Helvellyn. If not, click the links to see some great pictures and read how we got on.

Back to the running. Those of you with street smarts may have put two and two together by now. Alas, I’ll still explain for the rest. In less than two weeks, myself and a small team from Access, along with some of the brilliant staff from 42nd Street will be running the Manchester 10k. We've been lacing up and heading out for practice runs on our lunchtimes and racking up even more miles when we get back home.

We're aiming to reach £2000 in donations and we're well on our way. We'd love you to lend your support to our team in the form of a small donation. Please remember to click the gift aid option too. Won’t cost you any more money but will allow extra funds to be released by the Government which will go towards helping even more people. Looking forward to seeing you all on the course…I’ll need water…and possibly a back rub.
