The Client
Claire House Children’s Hospice provides free palliative and end of life care for children and young people based in Merseyside. Founded in 1998 as the first children’s hospice in the area, the charity relies on 80% of its donations from the public.
The Brief
To design and develop a new website for Claire House which facilitates donations and acts as a dedicated resource for parents, industry professionals and supporters.
The Solution
In-depth research
We spent time with staff, health professionals, families and volunteers to get a real insight into Claire House and the role that a new website would play in supporting the work of the hospice.
We gained a deep understanding how the website was being used, the branding the site had to reflect and the key functions the site needed to have. This included supporting more dynamic media across the site and a streamlined integrated donations process. By understanding our audience and the involvement of the internal teams at Claire House we could design and build a website that fulfilled all requirements.
User-centric design
A fundamental objective of the project brief was to address the site navigation and user journey.
It had to be clear to visitors to the site who Claire House are, the work they do, how to donate, sign up to volunteer and find important information quickly.
Targeted referral forms
We constructed a simple onsite contact us form to streamline the process of families getting in touch with Claire House for more information without having to call or make an appointment. The build of a referral form for medical professionals wishing to recommend a child to Claire House was also an important addition to the site.
Donation function
Donorflex has been integrated onto the site to ensure a safe donation process. This popular donation system is trusted by charities the world over and facilitates an easy user experience.
Store locator
Claire House wanted to encourage people to support their local charity shops by donating and buying. We implemented a map to promote the stores and educate users on their location. The map also includes different information about each shop, such as opening times and telephone numbers, making it a much more personal and rewarding experience for potential customers.
An inviting events calendar
To help encourage more participation in fundraising, an events calendar was built, which was a first for the charity. This friendly, accessible page enables users to quickly find information out and sign up to events happening with Claire House.
The Results
Claire House now have a professional, user-friendly and responsive website. The new site now inspires users to donate time and money and inform themselves on the charity’s work. The user was placed front and centre - and it shows. The new Claire House website has transformed their digital presence and looks to generate more donations and volunteers in the process.
