Google Analytics - Aston Villa

My beloved Aston Villa are in desperate need of improvement (one win in 2 months). Sadly, I’m not sure that this is going to happen. However, a company that has made improvements is Google, who’ve introduced some exciting new features to help with our daily reporting and data collecting needs.

To make sure that your campaigns are delivering the best results, you will need to ensure that you’re taking advantage of the following new tools.

Google Tag Manager

If you’re fed up of nagging your website developers to add snippets of code to your websites to track information, then there’s good news. You can now do it yourself!

You’ll need them to implement the Tag Manager code to every page of your site, then you’ll be able to sign in and use the Tag Manager interface to add new tags such as AdWords Conversion Tracking and Analytics tags.

All tags will then be managed through one system, which means a greater level of control and accountability.

Analytics Solutions Gallery

Know that you should be utilising the extra features in analytics but don’t really know where to start? Google has released a fantastic tool which allows you to add predefined rules to your account.

Choose from existing advanced segments, dashboards and custom reports to add to your account, then choose which profile you want them to appear in and that’s it. You can also choose via marketing function. So for example, if you’re interested in longtail PPC keywords of more than 5 words, there is a segment ready to be added to your desired profile.

This will prove to be a lifesaver in terms of both time and effort!

Enhanced Link Attribution

One of the big problems of using in-page analytics was the inability to see click data from duplicate links that go to the same destination. You’d have to set up event tracking to make this data appear in your account.

The update to this report allows you to upgrade your tracking code so that multiple links on a page show separate results.  Other in-page elements such as JavaScript buttons and navigations can also be tracked, so a much greater level of insight is now available to help make informed decisions on whether elements of a page are working.

I know it’s a long shot, but if Villa can show a similar kind of improvement, I’ll be enjoying Premier League football for at least another season.
