My Favourite App - Ruth Nelson

Home design 3d appThere is nothing like a looming deadline to push people into action. Following our 48hr warning for the ‘My Favourite App’ blog post competition closing date, I have decided to share mine. I guess this will have a more limited audience than some of the other favourite app blogs but oh boy, has this app made my life easier over the past 12 months.

Home Design 3D

Home Design 3D is a very clever bit of very easy to use technology that allows me, at the touch of a finger, to visualise my latest idea in the ongoing saga that is my house renovation. In 2D you can draw anything from a single room to a whole house complete with doors, windows and furniture, switch to 3D view and you can ‘walk through’ your latest creation (and possibly discover, as I did on one of my many design iterations) that you have created a room with no possible place for a door (minor inconvenience, or so I told my hubby who was doubled over laughing). I was so impressed, I decided to pay for the full version (there is a Freemium version to start you off) because the extra features are worth it if you are doing a big project such as mine but the free version would more than suffice if you are trying to work out if that amazing new sofa would fit in your lounge and still allow you to get through the door!Unfortunately (or fortunately if you are an architect), it hasn’t replaced the need to pay out architects’ fees but it meant we could go through so much of the process ourselves and then bring the professionals in when we knew exactly what we wanted.

The app developers (Anuman) are constantly adding value by providing really useful updates and always improving the product – I definitely get value for my £4.99!

It’s brilliant and more than deserves the many, many awards it has won.

Ooh, one improvement, if the developers happen to read this :-) I would dearly love to be able to place the storeys on top of one another in the 3D view, that  would have been really cool.
